Bratislava – Rusovce. August 22, 2024
The Slovak State Traditional Dance Company (SĽUK) is proud to introduce a new joint project in collaboration with the ADELI Foundation, aimed at breaking down barriers and connecting people through the art of dance. An inclusive dance performance titled “Dance, dance, don’t sit in the corner” is preparing for its premiere on October 29, 2024, at the DOM UMENIA in Piešťany. This unique project, which will see professional dancers from SĽUK collaborating with people with physical disabilities from the ADELI Medical Center, is an extraordinary achievement in the field of integration and inclusion in Slovakia.
No barriers, only the rhythm of the dancers
The project includes ten talented participants with varying mobility impairments, aged 4 to 41. Thanks to their determination and the support of experts from SĽUK, a work is being born on stage that reflects the unique combination of folklore and the desire to overcome one's own limitations. The joint music and dance performance is called “Dance, dance, don’t sit in the corner” and is intended to point out that dance can bring people together regardless of their health condition or disposition. Dance is about the joy of movement and the opportunity to show what is inside each of us! It expresses the endeavor to overcome barriers and connect people through a shared passion for dance.
“Dance is the language with which we express our feelings, dreams, and desires. The project Dance, dance, don't sit in the corner shows that every person, regardless of their physical abilities, has the ability to dance and be part of this beautiful expression. We are here to break down barriers and create a world where inclusion and a love of dance are an integral part of our lives”, said the project's author, Radka Šulovská.
Documentary filmmaker Jaroslav Vojtek captures the creation of an inclusive performance
Throughout the process of rehearsals, photographing the visuals and the premiere of the performance itself, a unique documentary film will be created to capture this extraordinary journey. Behind the camera is renowned Slovakian documentary filmmaker and director Jaroslav Vojtek, whose sensitive approach and experience provides an authentic look at the connection between professional dancers and people with mobility impairments. This film offers viewers not only a look behind the scenes of the creation of the performance, but also personal inspiring stories of people who found strength and joy in dance despite their health restrictions.
