Dance, dance, don't sit in the corner

Professional dancers from SĽUK and people with disabilities will perform on stage

Bratislava - Rusovce. August 22, 2024

The Slovak Folk Art Collective (SĽUK), in collaboration with the ADELI Foundation, is proud to present a new joint project aimed at breaking down barriers and connecting people through the art of dance. An inclusive dance performance entitled "Dance, dance, don't sit in the corner" is preparing for its premiere on October 29, 2024 at DOM UNEMIA in Piešťany. This unique project, in which professional dancers from SĽUK and people with physical disabilities from ADELI Medical Center will work together, is an extraordinary achievement in the field of integration and inclusion in Slovakia.

No barriers, just the rhythm of the dancers

The project involves ten talented participants with different mobility impairments aged between 4 and 41. Thanks to their determination and the support of experts from SĽUK, a work is born on stage that reflects the unique combination of folklore and the desire to overcome one's own limitations. The joint music and dance performance is called "Dance, dance, don't sit in the corner" and is intended to point out that dance can bring people together regardless of their state of health or disposition. Dance is about the joy of movement and the opportunity to show what each of us is made of! It expresses the desire to overcome barriers and connect people through a shared passion for dance.

"Dance is the language we use to express our feelings, dreams and desires. The project Dance, dance, don't sit in the corner shows that everyone, regardless of their physical abilities, has the ability to dance and be part of this beautiful expression. We are here to break barriers and create a world where inclusion and love of dance are an integral part of our lives," said the author of the project, Radka Šulovská.

Documentary filmmaker Jaroslav Vojtek captures the creation of an inclusive performance

Throughout the process of rehearsals, photographing the visuals and the premiere of the performance itself, a unique documentary film will be created to capture this extraordinary journey. Behind the camera is renowned Slovakian documentary filmmaker and director Jaroslav Vojtek, whose sensitive approach and experience provides an authentic look at the connection between professional dancers and people with mobility impairments. This film offers viewers not only a look behind the scenes of the creation of the performance, but also personal inspiring stories of people who found strength and joy in dance despite their health restrictions.
