How neurological music therapy reprograms the brain

Lecture: Progress and new perspectives in neurological music therapy
In his lecture, Prof. Thaut shares the latest scientific findings on the neuronal and psychophysiological basis of music and rhythm perception. He will show how music and rhythm can be used specifically in motor, linguistic and cognitive rehabilitation for neurological disorders.
Course: Introduction to neurological music therapy (NMT)
In this practical course, Prof. Thaut gives a detailed introduction to the scientific principles and clinical techniques of NMT. Participants will experience NMT-supported interventions for sensorimotor, speech and cognitive rehabilitation at first hand. A special focus is placed on the adaptation of NMT for low and middle income countries and on global clinical and scientific networking.

About Prof. Dr. Michael H. Thaut
Prof. Dr. Michael H. Thaut is one of the world's leading experts in the field of music neuroscience and neurological music therapy (NMT). He is a professor at the University of Toronto and Director of the Music and Health Science Research Collaborative. Since 2017, he has held the title of Canada Research Chair Tier I in Music, Neuroscience and Health (the highest level for established top researchers). He is co-founder of NMT, an evidence-based approach that is now practiced in over 70 countries worldwide, and co-founder of the Academy of NMT.
With more than 300 scientific publications and numerous ongoing research projects, Prof. Thaut has made a significant contribution to the further development of music therapy in neurological rehabilitation. His research includes the areas of Alzheimer's, Parkinson's, stroke rehabilitation, depression and autism.
