“I am very grateful that, despite the poor prognosis, I am doing so well. The rehabilitation at the Adeli Medical Center has contributed significantly to this, many thanks to everyone!” – writes Dagmar after her rehab in October 2022. Dagmar is a patient who successfully fought post-Covid syndrome. She also stands as proof that the alleviation of symptoms after Covid is possible. Dagmar, a 57-year-old doctor, considered herself a healthy woman. She learned to live with asthma and also balanced the mental strain at work well with rest. She managed her first Covid illness in the autumn of 2020 almost without problems and got vaccinated as quickly as possible. However, she noticed that apart from giving her all at work, she could not do anything else. The second infection then “shut her down.” She was like paralyzed, without strength, with fading memory, an inability to concentrate. Physical fatigue with back pain prevented her from taking care of herself and the household on a daily basis. Originally from Germany, Dagmar traveled to the ADELI Medical Center in Slovakia at the end of October 2022 for post-Covid rehabilitation after unsuccessful treatment at home. “I left the treatment which was paid for by the health insurance in Germany. Apart from endless walks and building a self-help group for patients, there was unfortunately no therapy plan or program there. I was shocked how people six, twelve, or eighteen months after overcoming Covid simply gave up and applied for early retirement or disability pension.” Dagmar ended her rehabilitation in Germany prematurely and arrived in Slovakia by train with her last remaining strength. On the third day in Piešťany, she declared with a broad smile: “The post-Covid rehabilitation at ADELI produced results in a few days that I would not have dared to dream of for months.” THE REHABILITATION AT ADELI MEDICAL CENTER IS INTENSIVE AND VERSATILE The OXYMED hyperbaric center at the ADELI Medical Center in Piešťany was one of the first in Slovakia to set up a post-Covid rehabilitation program in the spring of 2021 and is currently the only center to offer a combination of various physical therapies and hyperbaric chamber treatment. “The post-Covid rehabilitation program is aimed at people suffering from the consequences of respiratory diseases and functional disorders of internal organs, especially for patients who have had a moderate case of COVID-19. The rehabilitation does not only help a specific painful body organ, but helps all systems and organs in the body to restore their functionality,” says Dr. Inna Durda, chief physician of the OXYMED department for hyperbaric oxygen therapy at the ADELI Medical Center in Piešťany. “COVID-19 can trigger an autoimmune reaction in some people, where the immune system mistakenly targets healthy tissue. In other cases, there can be a dysregulation of the autonomic nervous system, which is responsible, for example, for blood pressure, heart rate, breathing, or digestion.” Ms. Dagmar has now finished her 2-week stay at the ADELI Center in Slovakia. She particularly appreciated the multitude of therapies, the intensity, and furthermore the personal and highly individual approach at ADELI. Active therapies are combined with rest procedures, which is why the body regenerates. “Although I started to finally taste food again here, I don’t understand how I could lose 3 kilograms.” – she laughs. Personally, she sees an improvement in her condition of 90%. After completing her two-week stay, Ms. Dagmar shares: “Upon arrival, I was still breathing heavily when going down the stairs and had to take breaks. Now I walk to the fifth floor with only one short break. I relaxed, I breathe better. I used to have feelings of chaos and disorientation and was treading water. Now I am planning again with an overview and have no fear of failure. My therapist and I covered a distance of 5 kilometers on the last day, that is a dream come true! Thanks again for everything. When I got home, I went to physical therapy, but my results are already ‘too good.’ So I ended my sick leave after a week and started working again.” One month after the therapy, Dagmar writes some additional feedback: “After 2 apheresis (blood wash) sessions, the joint pain has now also almost completely disappeared. I have been working again since December 5th, have a reduced workload until the end of 2022, but will be working full-time after that. I am very grateful that I am doing so well despite the poor prognosis, the rehabilitation at the Adeli clinic contributed significantly, many thanks to everyone!”
