New at ADELI: Rhythm strengthens your gait and much more

Research results show that rhythmic and musical stimuli can specifically target the networks in the brain involved in movement and speech. An international seminar on Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT™) took place at the ADELI Medical Center. It brought together 27 experts from 8 countries!

Yes, music can specifically contribute to improving movement and speech. This is not a romantic idea or a utopia. Neurologic Music Therapy (NMT™) provides a new perspective on how our brain works. It combines music, neuroscience, and modern rehabilitation, and is based on scientifically proven findings.

Like any demanding therapeutic method, this also requires sound training. Theoretical foundations, scientific findings, and practical work with case studies form the basis for responsible and targeted application in practice.

Prof. Dr. Michael H. Thaut and Dr. Corene P. Hurt-Thaut from Canada, globally recognized experts in the field of Neurologic Music Therapy, led the internationally certified NMT™ seminar at the ADELI Medical Center. Among the participants were experts from the USA, Croatia, and Belgium, special educators, a psychologist, music therapists, speech therapists, educators, and students from various disciplines…

Over the course of several seminar days, participants gained theoretical knowledge and practical experience with standardized NMT™ techniques for the rehabilitation of people with neurological conditions. These include, among others, patients after a stroke, people with Parkinson's disease, those with traumatic brain injuries, and multiple sclerosis… i.e., those with impairments in communication and motor skills.

Transferring scientific findings directly into therapeutic practice is a valuable experience for therapists and a tangible benefit for patients.

“We hope to plant a seed of interest in this field. And we can hope that it will continue to develop for the benefit of the patients,” – the likeable Canadian of German descent, Prof. Michael H. Thaut, told us during his visit to the ADELI Medical Center last year.

For Regina Davletbaeva, a music therapist at the ADELI Medical Center, the training also provided a valuable expansion of her perspective on the therapeutic use of music. “The new findings are already enriching my daily therapeutic work, and above all, they provide a benefit for the patients,” – she says. Regina finds the use of a metronome in music therapy practice particularly interesting. According to her observations, a regular rhythm actually supports the conscious perception of movement, its planning, and thus the uniformity of movement execution. By applying these new findings, the therapist was able to achieve a more consistent gait quality for one of her patients.

After his second visit to the ADELI Medical Center, Prof. Thaut was once again impressed by the special character of the facility. He described ADELI as a “medical resort” where high professional standards are combined with a pleasant human environment. This contributes significantly to the well-being of the patients and to a positive experience after intensive neurorehabilitation sessions.

For the interdisciplinary team at ADELI, this trust is a valuable recognition and at the same time an incentive to continue developing the high-quality standards of neurorehabilitation every single day.

"With a non-invasive method, we cut through shortened and hardened connective tissue or muscle strands that restrict the mobility of a joint. After the procedure, our patients regain their mobility and more independence," explains Dr. Igor Nazarov regarding his surgical method. Due to the high interest of our clients, Dr. Igor Nazarov, a specialist in myotenofasciotomy, is coming to Piešťany from Barcelona again. 📅 Consultations: Friday, February 13 – Saturday, February 14, 2026 📍 ADELI Medical Center, Piešťany

Hardly anyone looking at Jarka would guess that just ten years ago she was fighting for her life and had to relearn how to speak, eat, or take her first step. At the Bratislava Fashion Days 2026, Jarka inspired as a model and even received a standing ovation.
