Prof. Dr. Heinrich Binder was born in Vienna on 3 December 1947.
After studying human medicine, he graduated from the University of Vienna with a doctorate in medicine.
On July 1, 1972, Prof. Binder took up a position as assistant physician at the Neurological University Clinic in Vienna, where he completed his specialist training in neurology and psychiatry until November 1978.
In June 1982, he habilitated on the subject of "Coma hepaticum" and was appointed associate university professor in September 1988.
From the early 1980s, Prof. Binder headed a neurological rehabilitation ward at the Neurological University Clinic in Vienna, where he played a key role in developing the field of neurological rehabilitation.
It was also during this time that the Austrian Society for Neurorehabilitation (ÖGNR) was founded, of which Prof. Binder is a co-founder and still a permanent board member. In December 2005, he was elected President of the society.
In May 1989, Prof. Binder was appointed to the board of the Maria Theresien-Schlössl Neurological Hospital, which moved to the Otto Wagner Hospital in 2002 as a neurological center with a focus on neurorehabilitation. Since then, he has consistently driven forward the further development of neurological rehabilitation there - with a particular focus on patients with severe neurological or neuropsychological deficits and on invasive rehabilitation procedures.
Since 1994, Prof. Binder has headed the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Restorative Neurology and Neuromodulation.
To date, he has published over 140 scientific publications.
